HIMSS to Open New Health Care Cybersecurity Hub in Cleveland

Later this month, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) will open its new, interactive Cybersecurity Hub at the HIMSS Innovation Center, within the health IT floor of the Global Center for Health Innovation, in downtown Cleveland.

The Hub is an immersive learning environment aimed at demystifying the evolving cyber threat landscape for health care executives, IT professionals, policymakers, and the public. This new exhibit allows visitors to interact with a series of modules, where they will see various security-related scenarios and be guided through various solutions for solving them.

The Hub will demonstrate how various points of care connect though electronic data, the potential security risks with health care data, and the latest vendor solutions to mitigate that risk.

“A strong cybersecurity framework is critical to our nation’s health infrastructure.  We must protect patients’ safety and providers’ ability to deliver high-quality care,” said Carla Smith, executive vice president of HIMSS North America. “At HIMSS, it’s our responsibility to help stakeholders understand the breadth of security challenges we face, and to effectively address these challenges. We believe that the educational information, product solutions and resources offered by the Cybersecurity Hub will be an important cornerstone in addressing these significant challenges.”

The Hub opening on Oct. 25 is surrounded by a series of cybersecurity and innovation events at the HIMSS Innovation Center Oct. 22-26, including:

The Hub itself will be officially opened to the public with an opening reception on Oct. 25, 5:30 p.m. ET, where Carla Smith, the HIMSS North America executive vice president, is scheduled to speak.
